This book is a great read for both boys and girls alike! Tucker is in 7th grade and his life seems to be falling apart his parents have divorced, he is the need at school, his mom works all the time so he has to take care of his little brother (who has special needs) all the time, and now the school bully is after him. Read to find out how the creation of a new superhero - Beanboy - changes things, just a little at a time. I'm ordering this one for our library today! P.S. you will live the comics included!
This adventure felt both familiar and new. If you can imagine finding adventure in a museum, or shrinking down to the size of a mouse, then you might enjoy this story. Ruthie and Jack find a magic key that allows them to shrink down and enter the Thorne rooms. But wait... Even more awaits them inside! I've always loved dog stories and I read this one to get ready for volunteering at the Animal Defense League this summer. It's a great story told from the dog's point if view. This new Bluebonnet & 4th grade battle book didn't appeal at first. But I really liked it once I got into it. If you liked "Year of the Dog" in 3rd grade, I think you'll really like "Flying the Dragon". This is a great story about culture, family, and fitting in at a new school. Another bluebonnet book for next year! This delightful story weaves in adventure and culture very well. You will learn about new foods, traditions, and life in Thailand. You will fall I'm love with Pohn-Pohn and Tua as they make friends throughout the city and laugh as they outsmart the nasty mahouts. Wow! If you enjoy a book that can make you laugh and cry, then you should try "Mockingbird". Caitlin's big brother Devin has been killed in a tragic shooting at the middle school. Caitlin and her dad are left to find closure and continue their lives alone. To add to the challenge, Caitlin has Asperger's syndrome. This is a story about healing, finding friends, and learning to walk in another person's shoes. As summer school kicks off next week, I chose this book to see if it might serve as a good read aloud. "Dust" was not at all what I expected. Yes , it took place during a Dust Bowl type era, on a farm, near a small town. But there was so much more - a mysterious stranger, hints of aliens, kidnapping, and evil magic. It was a hard book to read, yet harder to put down. It would be an interesting follow up to "A Storm in the Barn" by Matthew Phelan. Kate Klise has done it again. Her 43 Old Cemetery Road continues to delight readers. This time Olive, Semyour, and Iggy are headed to Hollywood to make a movie, and nothing but trouble awaits them. This new book, Timmy Failure Mistakes were Made, will appeal to fans of Diary if a Wimpy Kid and Big Nate. The chapters are super short, there are plenty if drawings, and the humor is silly. I finally read and enjoyed a Melvin Beederman story! Greg Trine has created a superhero who is funny and even a pretty good superhero, even though he doesn't fly very well and cannot leap talk buildings in a single bound. This is a great series for 2nd and 3rd grade. This new Bluebonnet and 4th grade battle book is sure to capture your interest. It's got puzzles, mysteries, and history too. You will love following CJ, Patrick and Brid as the try to follow seven clues to find the treasure. The appendix at the back that tells you what's real an what's not is a great addition. The new 4th grade Battle list is posted and I have started my summer reading, even though school isn't officially out yet. "My Louisiana Sky" is a touching story about a young girl growing up in rural Louisiana. Tiger is being raised by her grandmother and her parents, since her parents are considered 'simple' or 'retarded'. What's clear in this story is that this family truly loves each other and that Tiger has true friends too. It's a special story about growing up. This is a fun story about Owen and the secret package that falls off a train as it rumbles past his home. Read about the adventures of Owen and his 2 best friends, and their arch enemy, Viola. |
