Found this one at the book fair. A powerful novel for teenagers, though I can think of some fifth grade girls who would enjoy it too. The main character, Ever, faces terrible teasing because she is severely overweight. She makes a drastic decision to have surgery, and begins to discover who she truly is and who her true friends are too.
Great new nonfiction! Who wouldn't want to read about lizards that spit blood out of their eyes, a goose that can fly higher than a helicopter over the Himalayas, barking spiders, and an octopus that can change its shape to look like other animals? This book is so cool!
A story of friendship, chickens, and new beginnings. Prairie Evers is a character who comes alive and you feel like you know her well as you join her in a momentous year in her life.
I love the beginning of this one:
"Ruby Small was a normal little girl. Perhaps this was to make up for having two not-normal-at-all parents.". Of course you have to read on to find out more.... This wordless picture book tells a story of resourcefulness and a great escape.
I can't believe I waited so long to read this one! I've always enjoyed fiction about medieval times. Will is an orphan that has been apprenticed to a Ranger, although he really wanted to be a knight. There are great villains and heroes in this tale, and the series has been set up with battles and hints of war. If you like history and fantasy, give this one a try!
Siblings Ben and Zoe lead dangerous lives, helping their uncle save animals in danger. This adventure took place in the Himalayas as the tried to rescue a mama snow leopard and her 3 cubs.
Okay, you may call me crazy - but I do love to read & recommend new books to students. The hottest titles at our library this week have been: We also got 3 boxes of new books this week - so we have been busy adding them to the shelves - and busy reading them too!
