It's picture book time again as I explore the new books that arrived over the summer.
I am so lucky I picked this one first. This beautiful book is based on a true story about the rescue of a family of ducklings that fell down a storm drain. What I love in the book is the poetic storytelling... My favorite line is "Oh dear! That could have been the end if the story. But it wasn't, because...." This fabulous line is repeated throughout this delightful story. This will make a great read aloud!
This hilarious story is told with the use of only ONE word...you guessed it "ball". Through the use of simple illustrations and thought/speech bubbles, we go through a typical day for this poor ball-possessed dog. We see the joy of playing ball from the minute he wakes up, to the frustration when his little girl disappears to school for the day. My favorite part is the dream sequence!
What a silly story! But if you are a dog-lover like I am, you will love all the speech bubbles and the antics of Vinnie the lost dog. He is joyful about everything! For example, here's the great line when he meets Bogart "I love you! I'm Vinnie! Hi!" In that exact order😊 isn't that why we love dogs? They love us first!
