I just finished two books geared for readers who are ready for something a little more intense.
Many if my students are fans of "Cardboard" by Doug TenNapel, so we decided to try "Ghostopolis".
A little more on the scary side, and a little confusing as it jumps around a lot at the beginning. But a determined reader will stick with it and enjoy the story and variety of life in the Afterworld.
For gilts especially I would highly recommend
I picked this book up as a challenge from my book club to read a newly published book by a Texan author. I couldn't put the book down, or actually my iPad since I was reading it on Overdrive. I've always enjoyed stories about individuals who overcome hardships. This novel was about a young girl coping with her mother being diagnosed with breast cancer, and how the whole family was affected. On top of a wonderful story and believable characters, was the fun of recognizing the setting right here in San Antonio.
Loved this book.
