Our gifted and talented students will be reading this novel later this year, a change from years reading "The Giver". This alone made me curious to read this book and see how it might interest and challenge these amazing students. I had no idea what to expect.
What I found was a touching story of finding one's way in the world. A story of healing, after the loss of loved ones. A story of friendship that defies the odds. An adventure.
But even more, I found a gifted storyteller. Woven throughout the realistic story is the additional numerical story of Pi. The two stories are interwoven and it's difficult at times to know which came first - the story's action or Pi's story.
I look forward to talking with the GT students about what they think.
