This book caught my attention at librarian's conference in April, but I was unable to snag a copy. So I was thrilled to see it available in our Overdrive e-book collection.
I must admit, I was not as drawn into this book as I expected from the cover. I think it's because there was just too much crammed into the book. Let me see if I can explain.
This is a time travel book of sorts. When Dorrie and her brother Marcus are chasing their friend's runaway pet mongoose, they fall through the floor in the library into this strange pool and another world of sorts. In this world they are surrounded by ninja librarians and apprentices who travel back and forth through time trying to save key historical figures whose works are in jeopardy.
Things get confusing when some of the "librarians" actually end up being people whose work they have rescued. Plus, while being fairly well read, even I could not keep all of the time periods, historical figures, and important events straight. I'm wondering if students will get as overwhelmed as I did.
My overall impression is that the author just tried to do too much in one book
But I've been proven wrong before- I look forward to students proving me wrong again. Will you try the book and see what you think?
